Before the coronavirus outbreak we were working on a multi-phased, private members’ club project in Williamsburg, Brooklyn: a one-of-a-kind venue designed to bring together a community of women and men who share a common desire to pursue parity through creativity and innovation. The XX House is a progressive organization that strives to cultivate a unique perspective into the world of benevolent leadership – focusing particularly on establishing balance between masculine and feminine leadership attributes.
However, no one could predict what would happen next and works came to a halt. Now as we see New York slowly easing back into construction, work can re-commence, but there is a twist! The client has made the very brave decision to put the private members club on hold and transition the space for a totally different use.
VAKOTA was introduced to The XX House team through the designers at Wherewithal. At first, we were asked to act as an Owners’ Representative – to assist with coordinating the building architect, the designers and the management company. But as the project grew and we became more involved, we took on a larger, more complex role.
We began assisting with the implementation of the design, expanding the program and engaging consultants for the new kitchen, lighting and sound. All of which are essential to the new purpose of the building.
The XX House will eventually open its doors as the first and only membership club for modern leaders, offering beautiful multi-use spaces, targeted programming and amenities tailored to the unique professional and social interests of its members. But, for the short term, the building will offer contemporary space available for office use, film production and photo shoots.
