We recently visited one of our ‘in progress’ sites in Pelham Manor, New York. This is an exciting project for us at VAKOTA, as in the Pelham Manor house we are using a number of advanced sustainable measures throughout the build, such as ultra-insulated windows, eco foam insulation and a radiant flooring system throughout.
We’ve also added a series of underground cisterns to catch run-off water, which can be used for gray water use. This house is most certainly maximizing the use of the most energy efficient house building products on the market today.
The house is constructed from a steel frame with engineered wood members to help save weight and cost. On this we have been working with Jeremy Page, Principal of Structures LLC, for the structural design elements of the build.
We have carefully left some of the steel work exposed to express the structural aesthetic of the house and creating an elegant and spacious open space.
A series of stunning skylights in the atrium beam natural light into the main double height sitting room, which is cleverly shielded from the street by a full height fireplace and a raised sun room.
The raised sun room has been give oversized windows to allow for more light to enter the home.
Throughout the home we’re are using a radiant flooring system by Warmboard. Warmboard is a wonderful product that acts as a sunfloor, every aspect of the design and manufacturing of Warmboard has been implemented to maximize performance so that it stable temperatures and decreases energy use (which in turn means a reduction on your energy bills).
Work is due for completion on this beautiful New York home in the Summer.
