In the town of Mamaroneck in Westchester, NY we are renovating a 1980s Spanish revival style home, built on the site of a former barn.
During the initial renovation stages, we discovered the remnants of a late 1800s/early 1900s barn, this was very exciting for us and after the discovery, we built elements of the former barn structure into the new design of the home.
We used large timber structures and tie rods, with oversized bolts in the makeup of new timber trusses and paid homage to the former building in the interior design. This home is the perfect example of how we blend the old and new.
Externally, to give the main house the focal point of the design, we modified the pitch of the existing porch roof to accentuate the entrance and made a low slope roof for the new garage – both leaning slightly away from the main entrance, guiding the eye to the impressive entry-way.
The traditional windows have been removed and replaced with new larger picture windows, which bring in natural light and offer the homeowners stunning views to the surrounding park landscape.
We are also making a start on the new planned pool area which will extend to the outdoor/indoor living space.
