This highly stylized apartment on the upper east side of Manhattan had not been updated in nearly 30 years – until VAKOTA embarked on a complete redesign, from the floorplan to the décor, creating a new sense of light, space and flow – all within a 4-month construction timeline.
The client was looking for a way to maximize the space within the property. This project opened up the layout of the apartment, creating extra rooms without impeding on existing space.
A new bedroom and bathroom were created, whilst the rest of the living space was converted to a bright and airy open plan area. To match both the client’s personality and tastes, and the requirement for spaciousness, the design incorporated a consistency in uniform materials in order to make each room feel as large and uninterrupted as possible.
Embracing the available square footage included installing hidden doors and closets to create more usable space. A focus was placed on creating continuous lines, using touch latches and recessed drawer pulls instead of hardware
The result is an incredibly clean and open apartment that does not sacrifice storage or functionality.
