Brooklyn Town House
Park Slope Loft
Located on a quiet side street in the popular area of Park Slope Brooklyn, this 1901 2-family, 4-story townhouse was in desperate need of renovations.
The owner wanted to create an open floorplan with connections from the front entry to the Rear Yard. We used simple forms, a light-weight open stairwell, and a white and black scheme to enhance the designs simplicity. Access to the Rear Yard is through a glass atrium which can be fully opened to seamlessly expand the interior environment into the exterior landscape.
As with many projects, budget was a major concern. The Kitchen cabinets came from a local manufacturer, the Powder Room counter was made with leftover Kitchen counter material, the Bedroom closets where modified from a popular mass production company’s standard units, and the flooring was an engineered flooring from an overstock flooring company.
The master bedroom was expanded by the introduction of an exterior balcony that floats over the atrium and continues the connection from the interior environment to the exterior landscape. Opposite the exterior bedroom wall we installed mirrored closet doors to help increase the sense of space.
